Our Physicians

Mid-Ohio Pediatrics and Adolescents, Inc. is an association of nine physicians with each physician Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.   Each physician is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  All of our physicians are community based physicians at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Richard A. Petrella, M.D. FAAP

Dr. Rick Petrella received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame.  His Medical Degree is from The Ohio State University and completed a residency training program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  Since 1980 he has been in private practice with Mid-Ohio Pediatrics.  He lives in Westerville with his wife, Vicki.  In his spare time, Dr. P thoroughly enjoys spending time with his four grandchildren.

Dr. Sidney L. Couling, M.D.

Dr. Sidney L. Couling attended Bowling Green State University for his undergraduate studies and received his Medical Degree from The Ohio State University.  He completed both his internship and residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and served two years with the National Health Service in Georgia before joining Mid-Ohio Pediatrics in 1987.  He and his wife, Kathy, live in Upper Arlington.

Dr. Eileen H. Sheets, M.D.

Dr. Eileen Hewitt Sheets received her Bachelor’s Degree from Youngstown State University and her Medical Degree from The Ohio State University.  She completed residency and internship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  She lives in Powell, Ohio with her husband.  Now that her two sons are at college, she enjoys time with her two boxers, Dexter and Coco.  She has been elected to “Best Doctors” by her colleagues for many years.  Dr. Sheets is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor fraternity.

Dr. Kent W. Doherty, D.O. FAAP

Dr. Kent Doherty received his Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University and his Medical Degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he was named “House Officer of the Year” and received the Miner Seymour Award which is given to the outstanding senior resident.  After residency, Dr. Doherty joined Mid-Ohio Pediatrics in 1993.  Dr. Doherty and his twin brother, Kevin, have established Grace Clinic, a non-profit organization for those less fortunate who do not carry insurance.  A true outdoorsman, he enjoys spending time taking in nature with his wife, Kim, and his three sons.

Dr. Elizabeth M. Jacob, M.D.

Dr. Elizabeth M. Jacob attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.  She received her Medical Degree from The Pennsylvania State University and completed both her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.  An avid gardener, Dr. Jacob enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter.

Dr. Kathleen J. Fulop, M.D.

Dr. Kathleen J. Fulop received both her Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Genetics and her Medical Degree from The Ohio State University.   She completed her residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  She received the Resident Teaching Award from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1997 and the medical “House Officer of the Year” in 1998.  When not at the office, she can be found at a ballfield with her husband and son or running with her new rescue dog.

Dr. Meera R. Mehta, M.D.

Dr. Meera R. Mehta received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Akron and her Medical Degree from Northeastern Ohio College of Medicine.  She completed her internship and residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Mehta served as Pediatric Chief Resident from 2007-2008 before joining Mid-Ohio Pediatrics full-time.  She is happily married to her husband Kyle.

Dr. Brent M. Barson, D.O.

Dr. Brent Barson received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University and his Medical Degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he was named “Outstanding Resident Teacher of the Year” and joined Mid-Ohio Pediatrics in 2013.  Dr. Barson and his wife, Nicki, live in Galena with their two sons and daughter.
